Welcome to the District 106 Web Portal!
On behalf of the Board of Education, the administration and the staff of District 106, WELCOME!!
For the last several years users of the district106.net website have been able get school news and calendar updates from the district106.net website via email. The adoption of this feature has never been what we had hoped it would be.
In an effort to increase communication between the district and its stakeholders, the district is undertaking a campaign to raise awareness of this feature of the district website. To learn how to receive email notifications on school topics that are of interest to you, please view the four and a half minute video that walks you through setting up email notifications.
We plan to continue to expand the content that is available to parents electronically as the year progresses. If you have any feedback as to the types of information you would like to receive electronically, please email your suggestions to Eric Callis

hpilch writes "Sixth grade is going green! Help us reduce the amount of garbage in the landfills by participating in a waste free lunch. Students will be asked to bring their lunches in reusable containers in an effort to cut down on the amount of waste generated in the lunchroom. This event will be on Monday, November 24, 2008. This activity will also be incorporated in math classes by comparing the weight of waste generated on a regular lunch day to a waste free lunch day. For more information on how to prepare a "greener" lunch, visit Waste Free Lunches."

Just 25% of the way through the school year, Mr. Zeman's 8th grade science classes have already saved just shy of 3500 sheets of paper by using digital documents instead of printed ones. If they keep on this pace for the whole year, this will amount to about 14,000 sheets in one classroom alone.
Middle School: Highlands Middle School Parents Holiday Gift Giving
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 @ 15:47:55 CST
mpapierski writes "Highlands Middle School families and staff,
2008 has been a financially difficult year for so many families. The stock market crash and the number of jobs lost has had an impact on budgets and day to day living. Yet, there are still so many who are less fortunate than we, the Highlands community, who could use some help.
Once again this holiday season, Highlands Middle School is sponsoring preschool students from a Chicago inner city school and foster care children. We hope to make the holidays a little happier for these children and for our students learn the reward of giving.
We are seeking individuals, families and/or groups to sponsor a child. We are asking that a winter coat, hat, gloves, and small toy be purchased for the preschool students. The foster children are in need of one of their wish list items.
If you, your family, or a group of friends are interested in helping out, please contact Mrs. Luetkehans for a child’s name, clothing size, and wish list information. Please e-mail her at mluetkehans@district106.net or call (708) 485-3497. We will distribute names in the order that requests are received.
During the time of Thanksgiving, we are grateful and thankful for the kindness and generosity of our Highlands community. Please help us share the warmth and joy of the holidays with these children!
Happy Thanksgiving! "
